Moon Over Manifest
Moon Over Manifest by Clare Vanderpool is this year's Newbery award winner and rightfully so - it is a wonderful historical fiction novel narrated by 12-year-old Abilene who has been sent to her father's hometown, Manifest, Kansas, for the summer during the Great Depression. A mystery and flashbacks take her back to her father's childhood, growing up in 1918.
